I am excited, the end is near

The end of my degree program that is!

I am currently in the 2nd to last term of my Bachelor of Science in Business Degree Program. I have 6 more weeks of this term and then a 1 week break before my last 10 week term begins. My last official day of class will be September 11, 2007.

One of the 3 classes I am taking this term is called: Advanced Career Development and it has proven to be very thought provoking. What do I want to do upon graduation? There is a point to all this studying and sleep deprivation! I really need to be bringing home larger pieces of bacon. Ohio in general has a sluggish economy and job market and the city I live in is starting to boom for retail, but is there a place for a writer?

This coming Friday (5/18), my younger brother will be picking my girls and I up early in the morning and we will be spending all day with him and his family as we explore his hometown of Ashland, Ohio. We will be looking at Jr. Highs, the career opportunities for me and possible residential areas. I would love to move near my brothers and my younger brother's family (2 nephews and a niece & of course his wife). I have one possible position as a technical writer for a research lab that I am going to pursue to see if it is a good fit.

The possibility to have the small farm I have always dreamed of is exciting. Moving again, well, that is another story. Moving is hard work! Getting to know another neighborhood can be exciting and frustrating. I wonder how my daughters would handle another move with this home finally feeling like home after almost 4 years. I wonder how our 4 female cats + newly rescued male cat and our 3 female dogs will like living in the country? My youngest will miss her friends being right across the street. I vowed to her, that if we do move, that I will make every effort to make sure they see each other every weekend. She told me this morning, "but mom, look at how high the gasoline prices will go this summer $4 a gallon, how will you be able to do that?" with eyes rolling LOL, how the heck does a eleven y/o know so much about economics? Guess that's what I get for homeschooling my kids....they grow up smart!

I really want to continue to write for a living and I do know that getting my degree was vital to being able to support my daughters comfortably. Freelancing is great and I love it that I have been a stay at home mom for 13.5 years now; but the possibilities are just a little scary. Funny how something you look forward to, can also seem intimidating at the same time. No matter what path my career takes after graduation, I know that I will continue my freelance writing as I love working with clients from all over the world. I have been able to do some really great research into some fascinating topics! I really enjoy creating something from a blank screen and see the finished product and hear the positive response from my clients. I know what I do has value to others.

Where ever the next chapter in my life takes me, I am sure that God will continue to use my talents. I am really looking forward to the journey!

Peace everyone :)
